October 2007 I've been back in Vermont for over a year, and am all the time happier to be here! On October 20 and 21 I was the featured artist (!) at the Westminster Quilt Show, which happens every other year. The show was a wonderful event. I had 23 pieces exhibited, taught a couple short classes, and had a booth with my work for sale. An exhausting and worthwhile endeavor! In conjunction with this event, I made a small quilt with other people in my community. Throughout the summer I hosted dyeing sessions to make the fabric for the piece, using leaves as a patterning resist. I then constructed a piece with these fabrics. It was raffled off on the last day of the show, and was won by a neighbor! Shelburne Museum (near Burlington Vermont) is showing the work of 10 contemporary Vermont quilt artists. Two of my pieces are in the show, Waterside and Strip Scrap. This show will be up until October 28th. There's also a wonderful exhibit at the museum of the work of Rosie Lee Thompkins, an Afro-American quiltmaker from Richmond California. |
