hand-dyed fabrics

water-soluble liquid resist

42" x 42"

I produced this piece of cloth from a soft purple fabric.  The resist I used is called Presist, and is a thick liquid which I apply with a small squeeze bottle.  Once the Presist has dried, I apply thickened dye (in this case, various shades of blue and purple) with a paint roller.  The "ghost" images of the resist pattern are a result of folding up the cloth while it's still damp; I like the added textural feeling this gives the cloth.
